Art at Selby Community Primary School aims to allow our children the opportunity to explore and experiment with a wide range of concepts that can be described as ‘Art’.  Techniques that allow these concepts to take shape are taught throughout school, alongside the myriad of different media available to our children.

Cross curricular links are at the forefront of teaching at Selby CP, allowing children to become engaged with Art in a variety of different ways.  Whether the children become immersed in Art through the ages, from different cultures, scientific or environmental, our children enjoy and succeed.

Art at our school means providing our pupils not only with the opportunity to learn about and participate in each of Art’s many areas, but also we aim to provide them with the platform from which to be creative, to express themselves, find success and share these experiences, talents and abilities through celebrating our Artists work.

Art and Design Skills

Our skills and milestones document is taken from the Chris Quigley Essentials and then made bespoke to our school.

  • The ability to use visual language skilfully and convincingly (for example, line, shape, pattern, colour, texture, form) to express, emotions, interpret observations, convey insights and accentuate their individuality.
  • The ability to communicate fluently in visual and tactile form.
  • The ability to draw confidently and adventurously from observation, memory and imagination.
