Literacy

Literacy at Selby Community Primary School aims to inspire children to read and write like an author. Our approach to teaching literacy and the whole curriculum is through a love of books. We further develop children’s creativity and imagination and bring the subject alive through speaking and listening games, drama, visits beyond the school gates which as a result entices their vocabulary and provides new experiences to write about.

Writing is taught in a three step process: imitate, innovate and invent where children are encouraged to consider audience and purpose.  Their writing skills are then applied to all areas of the national curriculum.
