Teachers at Selby Community Primary School aim to ensure that mathematics is taught in an exciting, motivating and interactive way. We endeavour for children to become competent mathematicians developing skills in mental calculation, using and applying number, measures, shape and space and data handling that can be used in a range of contexts.

We use the scheme Maths No Problem, based on the maths teaching in Singapore from years 1 to 6.  Please see our videos below giving support to parents.  Early years have adapted their teaching in line with the maths mastery approach which links in with the scheme followed by the rest of the school.

Children in a maths classChildren in a maths classAt Selby C.P. we promote positive attitudes to mathematics, and endeavour for the children to experience a life-long enjoyment of mathematics and also encourage them to realise its relevance and importance in their life, now and in the future.
