Music is an important part of school life at Selby CP, with a wide and varied range of activities being taught and offered throughout the school.

Mr Walker leads the music teaching for the whole school, with all year groups encountering a dynamic and creative curriculum, consisting of lessons delivering the musical aspect of the National Curriculum, alongside weekly singing sessions for Reception, Key Stage 1 and 2.

In Key Stage 2, all children have the opportunity to learn to play the ukulele as part of their timetabled music lessons.

In addition, some children who have shown significant promise and effort in singing or the ukulele will be offered the opportunity to be involved in Voice Academy or Ukulele Academy, receiving weekly group-based lessons to further hone their skills.

For many years, school has participated in the ever-successful Young Voices concerts, giving children the chance to develop their singing voices and join in with a choir of thousands at Sheffield Arena. Throughout the year, other key musical events such as Christmas Shows, Special Assemblies, iSing Pop and visiting workshops and touring productions contribute to the vibrant musical element of our school.
