At Selby CP we teach children to make healthy lifestyle choices through exercise, sport and active contributions.

They gain movement skills such as throwing, catching, running, jumping and rolling through games, gym, dance and athletics. An ethos of self-evaluation runs through all PE lessons and children are encouraged to become critical friends towards theirs’ and others’ performance in a wide range of activities.

We hope to give children the knowledge to participate in as many sports as possible by teaching the rules, formats and tactics for a range of games. Some of the sports we cover in PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs are hockey, rugby, football, handball whilst we also cover athletics, gymnastics, dance and outdoor activities which we aim to link to our termly topics.

We encourage children to compete against themselves and others in a range of situations and to have the drive and tenacity to push themselves further to achieve the best they can. For example by holding competitions throughout the school for all our children and sending teams of children to compete against other schools in the local area.
